I am pleased to join the Shepherd High School team as the Senior Instructor for the new Army JROTC program.I am coming to Shepherd High School after retiring from the active Army as a Chemical Officer. I first enlisted into the Army National Guard in 1982 and served as a radioman and infantryman. I used my military benefits to further my education and was commissioned as an active duty Chemical Officer upon my graduation from Mount Saint Mary's University in 1996 with a Bachelors of Science in Business and Finance. In 2010 I graduated from Air University with a Masters of Arts in Military Operational Art and Planning. I have served at various installations around the United States with my last assignment being with the First Armored Division at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. I am a certified Senior Army Instructor and amassed over 3,000 hours instructing Lieutenants during their Officer Basic Course at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. I was also a guest instructor at Georgetown University Medical School from 2010 to 2013 providing instruction in arms control treaties as they apply to medical research and the effects of Chemical and Biological Agents. I have also served at numerous overseas locations to include Bosnia-Herzegovina, The Kingdom of Jordan, Iraq, and Johnston Island. I hope my vast and broad experiences gained while serving our country can open up new and interesting discussions with the students that enhances their educational experience and increases their overall knowledge.
I look forward to building the program with my NCO, SFC (R) Maurice Stephenson and accomplishing the JROTC mission of "To motivate young people to be better citizens". My wife and I also look forward to becoming part of the Shepherd Community once our relocation from El Paso is complete.
