I graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. I attended Colorado State University the summer after I graduated. After staying home with my three children, I began working on my Master's in Counselor Education at the University Center in the Woodlands. I have been working in education ever since! I worked as a counselor at New Caney High School for 11 years. I am blessed to work in the Career and Guidance Center at Shepherd High School and enjoy working with students and parents. Working in education for many years has opened my eyes to so many possibilities. Part of working in the career and guidance department entails meeting with students to focus on academic and career goals as well as personal and social development. I encourage students to gain skills they need to be successful at any academic level and to prepare them to live as responsible and productive members of society. An educational goal of mine includes helping students learn about college admission criteria and future opportunities.
This page contains information about college admissions, testing, scholarships and graduation plans. There's even a "What's happening in Career and Guidance Center" blog. I post information here about upcoming events. Please feel free to contact me at: Jporter@shepherdisd.net I look forward to speaking with you!
